Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic says Serbia can only reach European quality and values through friendship with neighboring countries. He pointed out that chaos had started in Serbia once it had lost an ability to understand region’s interests. "Friendly relations with neighboring countries necessary" “Only through true friendship with Croats, Slovenians, Montenegrins, Albanians, Macedonians and all those we live together we can reach the quality that will be significant for somebody in Europe,” the LDP leader said in a written statement. He stressed that this would be an authentic value that Europe needed. Jovanovic added that Serbia could not join the EU by having fair relations with European commissioners and at the same time having conflicts with most of the EU member states. He thinks that it is a big mistake to believe that the country will join the EU by understanding Brussels better than those living around us. He said, however, that Europe should not be idealized because it would cause the Serbian people to believe that it would be enough to just say that we want to be a part of the EU and that life in Serbia would improve thanks to that. The LDP leader warned that such policy would compromise the European idea. “EU accession only makes sense if we understand Europe as a value system which works and as an example that we should use. We must not take Europe as an address we go to while smuggling in Serbia all that is bad and being convinced that nobody will notice,” Jovanovic stressed.
