President of the Christian Democratic Party of Serbia (DHSS) Vladan Batic has appealed on political parties to support the state over its Kosovo draft. Batic, who was justice minister in the cabinet of Zoran Djindjic, referred to the forthcoming UN General Assembly session, that will debate the adoption of Serbia's draft resolution on Kosovo and Metohija. Opposition figure urges unity “On behalf of the DHSS, I appeal to all with the contacts, connections and opportunities to influence foreign officials, to put aside their party and personal views and to join together and help (President) Boris Tadic and (Foreign Minister) Vuk Jeremic in the battle for Serbia at the UN General Assembly,” Batic said in a written statement to the media. He pointed out that "a number of people in Serbia are waiting for their country to be defeated", so they could blame the current government. "This is a negative message to the international community - that not even Serbia supports its own resolution," Batic underlined. “Our place is to help the resolution to be adopted regardless of whether we like it or not, whether we voted for it in the Serbian parliament or not, because the interest of Serbia should be above any party and personal interests,” he added. Batic also said that in case Serbia does not achieve an appropriate result at the UN GA session, where the country's resolution is due to be reviewed on September 9, the parliament, government, representatives of universities and leading religious communities should convene a joint session in order to determine the next steps.
