Speaking in his role of ICO chief, Pieter Feith said that "the survival of the Kosovo independence project is facing a critical challenge". Further developments will depend on the decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), he added. "Independence facing critical challenge" The ICJ is expected to give its advisory opinion this year on the legality under international law of the Kosovo Albanian unilateral proclamation made over two years ago. "The survival of the independence project is now facing a critical crisis," reports quoted Feith as saying, and also noting that "Kosovo hopes the (ICJ) decision will be at least equal and contain positive elements in order to win new recognitions and better access to international organizations, that would help with the social and economic development of the country". Speaking about the "degree of cooperation between Kosovo and Serbia", the Dutch diplomat, who also holds the office of EU's special representative in Kosovo, said that "many EU ministers are upset in a way, because they did not see the developments that they wished to see". "We should await for the court's decision, but it's certainly time to start thinking differently about our future," he said, speaking at the Institute of European and International Relations in Dublin, Ireland. He said that the Kosovo Albanian government in Pristina "must turn words into actions when it comes to fighting corruption on the highest level", and added this concerns not only the issue of "improving the image of Kosovo outside of its territory", but also, its residents.
