The Kosovo Albanian government does not see anything wrong with Serbian Patriarch Irinej’s enthroning at the Patriarchate of Pec, says one of its officials. Pristina’s Minister of Local Government Administration Sadri Ferati added however that they “do demand that any possible provocations be avoided on the occasion”. K. But, the report said, Ferati “stressed that the body requires that special attention be paid to the statements that will be made on the occasion, which will help prevent any new tensions between the ethnic communities of local Albanians and Serbs”. “We can say with certainty that the Serbs in Kosovo are tired of being controlled by Belgrade,” the Kosovo minister was also heard saying. He added that all the inhabitants of Kosovo “have the same rights and are free to visit any cultural or religious site they deem as important”. In its report, ANSA also reminded of the fact that Serb religious sites in Kosovo were the target of attacks in the past, “particularly the Patriarchate of Pec, which is why they are now being guarded by KFOR members”. The 45th Serbian patriarch – whose official title is the Archbishop of Pec, Metropolitan of Belgrade and Karlovci – will be enthroned at the medieval Serbian Orthodox Church monastery on April 25.
