Serbian politicians are optimistic that the interim trade agreement with the EU will be unfrozen on Monday in Brussels. The EU Council of Ministers will meet on Monday and Tuesday and are expected to make a decision on whether the agreement will be unfrozen. Serbia expects agreement to be unfrozen Belgrade officials believe that it will, stating that this will be the next step for Serbia in its European integration. The decision of the EU ministers depends most on Holland, which has been calling on Serbia to improve cooperation with the Hague Tribunal before the agreement can be unfrozen. Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said that he expects the agreement to be unfrozen, considering the positive responses from EU officials to Hague Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz’s report to the UN Security Council on Serbia’s cooperation with the Tribunal. “Brammertz’s report was positive and we believe that this secures the real basis for hope that the interim agreement will be unfrozen, which will create the condition for the state administration to evaluate when the right moment will be to apply for candidacy,” Dacic said. “The unfreezing of the agreement would be another step towards increasing the speed of our European integration, and the speed of Serbia on the road towards its final goal of EU membership,” Dacic said.
