Ruling Democratic Party (DS) Vice-President Dragan Sutanovac says there is no possibility that Serbia will have early elections, "especially not this year". “I do not know in whose best interest it would be to have months of campaigning now, and then negotiate to form a government. I am sure that this would not be in the best interest of the citizens,” Sutanovac told Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti. No early elections, DS official adamant He added that he is convinced that the Law on Public Information – which has seriously strained relations among the parties that make up the Cvetkovic cabinet – will receive the needed support in parliament to be adopted. Sutanovac, who is also defense minister, stated that he does not believe there are ideas to have any parties within the ruling coalition leave the government and offering minority support. “I do not believe that such ideas exist. All those who think that the government will be toppled in that way are mistaken. This government will last its entire mandate, and as a majority,” Sutanovac said. He also denied the accusations that the Democrats have launched a media campaign against the opposition Serb Progressives (SNS) – now the most popular party in the country according to polls – recommending that SNS officials "continue working on the modernization of their politics, which are still most grounded in the 1990s". When asked whether there is a possibility that the two parties could cooperate after the next elections, Sutanovac said that if the SNS want to cooperate with the Democrats "they must accept the system of values which where adopted by the EU and which the citizens are clearly oriented towards".
