Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu said today that Marti Ahtisaari's plan for Kosovo's status "has no alternative, and cannot have one". His comments came as Albanian language media in Pristina reported that the Madrid-based Foundation for International Relations and Dialogue appraised that the Ahtisaari plan – rejected by Belgrade and never approved at the UN – should be replaced with another, that would be accepted by both Pristina and Belgrade. The foundation's analysis says that the European policy "toward Kosovo and Serbia" needs to be reconsidered. It also states that the European engagement in the field is poor and insufficiently well-oriented. Instead of encouraging closer ties, present solutions contribute to cultivating greater distance between Albanians and Serbs, the analysis concluded.
