Several hundred Serbs from the Gnjilane village of Silovo are protesting today at the power cuts that have been running since March 2. Meanwhile, local representatives from the municipalities of Gnjilane, Novo Brdo, Vitina and Kosovska Kamenica have met to discuss the results of the visit by a Kosovo Serb delegation to Belgrade. New Serb protests against power cuts “It was decided at the meeting that sessions would be held in all four municipalities tomorrow for each of them to decide to schedule talks about resolving the problem with KFOR, UNMIK and EULEX, which has also expressed an interest for such a meeting,“ said Kosovsko-Pomoravski District Governor Dragan Nikolic. According to Nikolic, Serbs from his district will offer international representatives the same proposal for solving the electricity problem as they presented to officials in Belgrade. “We’ll ask for the introduction of a new electricity supplier (in Serb communities), who’ll be more reliable than the Kosovo Electricity Corporation (KEK) and who’ll read meters collectively, at the entrance to each village, to prevent any manipulation,“ he explained. Nikolic said that 7,500 people in 11 Serb villages were still without power and that the situation was gravest in Silovo, which had been without electricity since the start of the month.
