FoNet news agency Editor-in-Chief Zoran Sekulic says the arrival of EULEX in Kosovo has unofficially become a condition for Serbia's EU integration. This applies to the country's efforts to become an EU candidate, he told B92 on Monday. "Accepting EULEX, unofficial condition" The deployment of this EU mission is unofficially just as important as Serbia’s completion of its obligations towards the Hague Tribunal, Sekulic believes. He reminded that Pierre Mirel of the European Commission department that handle enlargement to the Western Balkans said last week that Belgrade’s conditions for the reconfiguration of the civil presence in Kosovo – that it be confirmed by the UN Security Council, maintaining neutrality concerning the status and disassociation from the implementation of the Ahtisaari plan – have been accepted. “The EULEX could not have been rejected in advance. Unofficial signs warned earlier that if Serbia does not reach an agreement with the international community on EULEX, to put it bluntly, the Office for European Integration might as well shut down at least for a while. That would dig Serbia’s in an even deeper hole, if not short-term, then mid-term in her European integrations” Sekulic said. The FoNet editor repeated that "this mission could not be rejected," and that instead, conditions were set for it to be approved. It is likely that this will be accepted, Sekulic concluded, while it is uncertain what the "final formulations" will be.
