The French Foreign Ministry said Serbia does not need to arrest all Hague fugitives immediately to show that it is cooperating. Eric Chevalier, special adviser to the French foreign minister, told the BBC that France supported the formation of a pro-European government in Belgrade and the implementation of reforms and changes that were necessary for entering the EU. France: Big chance for EU, Serbia “Cooperation with the Hague is a process where Serbia must show that it is cooperating fully, and that can be done very quickly. We will at the same time be sending many signals, because this is a very important opportunity for Serbia and Europe,” Chevalier said. “These two things can develop simultaneously. Serbia can very quickly show that it is ready for complete cooperation with the Hague, and we too are ready to improve cooperation with Serbia quickly,” he said. Chevalier said that it was up to the Tribunal to determine if Serbia was on the right path, and that it the most important was for Serbia and the EU to show clear signals that they were ready for cooperation. “It is important that we are aware of this historic moment. Remember how the Balkans looked ten years ago. This will be a large, positive step, regardless if it is reached by the end of this year, or the beginning of the next, or later,” he said. Chevalier said that the EU and France, as the presiding country, had done a lot to turn Serbia towards Europe, among other things, by liberalizing the visa regime, the BBC reported. (FoNet archive)
