Senior DS official Vuk Jeremic told B92 that he hoped the president would give the mandate for forming the new government to the “For a European Serbia“ list. “Whoever President Boris Tadic gives the mandate to after the consultations will resume talks with all political parties in parliament. I expect a strong, stable, pro-European government to be formed both in Belgrade and at republic level,“ said Jeremic. Jeremic expecting "European Serbia" govt. “I’m not saying that all the problems are solved. I’m not saying we can solve them tomorrow, but I can say that I’m optimistic that a government will be formed at all levels that responds to the basic political message that the Serbian citizens sent at the May 11 elections,“ the foreign minister added. He admitted that talks, particularly at Belgrade level were not going smoothly, though he stressed that there was plenty of cause for optimism that the coalition grouped around the Democratic Party (DS) would have a majority both in Belgrade and at state level. “Of course, parties have their own mandates at all levels, parties decide which road to take. I can express my profound conviction and optimism that no-one will dare to begin a process of resisting the citizens’ political will, resisting the will of citizens who said that they wished to see their municipality, their city and their country on the road to fully-fledged EU membership,“ Jeremic underlined. Cause for the DS’s optimism has arrived in the form of JS leader Markovic’s comments that he would be asking his coalition partners to break off talks with the DSS and SRS over their determination to scupper the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) in parliament. Markovic will discuss the matter today with fellow coalition leaders, the SPS’s Ivica Dacic and PUPS’ Jovan Krkobabic, prior to heading for the Presidency for talks with Tadic. Dacic told Tanjug that very serious talks were required over European integration. “As is well known, JS doesn’t think the SAA should be annulled. Moreover, as it is well known that the SPS is in favor of EU integration, while protecting our national and state interests, we also have reserves insomuch as the new government should have a very delicate attitude towards European integration, and should find a good balance between the will of the Serbian citizens for European integration—as no-one in Serbia has a monopoly over Europe—and the defense of national and state interests,“ said Dacic.
