Voting on the 2008 budget has been postponed again, probably because of disagreement over the issue of local elections. Parliamentary Speaker Oliver Dulic informed MPs that no vote had taken place owing to the absence of a quorum, and announced that the ballot would in all likelihood be held next Wednesday. 2008 budget vote postponed yet again However, unofficial reports suggest that a dispute arose between deputies over the proposed date for local and provincial elections. Dulic told reporters that one party had received notification that not all its MPs were present in the hall, though he did not name the party concerned, adding that he did not believe that it was to do with “political, but rather technical problems.” Asked whether relations within the governing coalition could be the cause of the postponement, the speaker replied that he had received “assurances that it was nothing to do with relations within the coalition, rather the fact that certain MPs were unable to get to Belgrade.” Meanwhile, Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) official Milos Aligrudic corroborated Dulic's version of events, stating that the scheduled vote on the budget proposal for 2008 had not been held because of the lack of a quorum. Aligrudic explained to reporters in parliament that "this is not the first time this has happened." "Democratic Party of Serbia deputies will vote on the budget with no problems," Aligrudic added. Asked whether all DSS deputies had entered the chamber, Aligrudic said that several had not, as was the case with "several other parties." "But, we will reach an agreement with the speaker to schedule a vote as soon as possible," Aligrudic said. Aligrudić explained to reporters in parliament that "this is not the first time this has happened."

"Democratic Party of Serbia deputies will vote on the budget with no problems," Aligrudić added.
