The deputy prime minister has accused Kosovo Serbs of misdirecting funds sent to the province by Belgrade. The Coordinating Center for Kosovo that handles the majority of government-funded projects for the Kosovo Serbs, says this body is ready to help reveal any potential abuse of the funds received from Belgrade. Djelic warns of misdirected spending of Kosovo funds Bozidare Djelic said he had obtained evidence of misuse of funds on a recent visit to Osojani, one of the Serb enclaves in Kosovo. On Tuesday, the deputy prime minister told B92 he would try to systematically solve the problem of financing the Kosovo Serbs. “We will compare, for example, a list of clerks who receive double salaries, and in order for them to have double pay cheques, they have to live in Kosovo together with their families,” explained Djelic. “I now have a list of those on the pay roll living in Osojani, and when we compare it with the government’s list and see that some of them are actually not in the enclave, we’ll cancel those privileges and give the money to those who are actually struggling to survive.” The head of the Coordinating Center for Kosovo, Vuko Antonijevic, told B92 that it could never hurt to control whether the assistance was reaching the beneficiaries. Djelic also said that the major abuse of funds reportedly takes place in Kosovska Mitrovica in northern Kosovo. “I have noted and I’ve been told of problems there. I heard that an assitance project worth RSD 20mn had been approved to be carried out via the Kosovska Mitrovica Chamber of Commerce, but Serbs in Mitrovica claim not to have seen a dime in 18 months. I will certainly check these allegations out,” said Djelic.
