Rasim Ljajic says that the government could fall if an agreement on elections and Kosovo is not reached. Ljajic, minister of labor and social policy in the Kostunica cabinet, said that unless the ruling coalition does not reach an agreement on when to hold elections and on how to react if Kosovo Albanians declare independence unilaterally, the government could fall apart. Minister: Government could collapse He said that if those two questions are not solved, a serious political crisis will result. Ljajic told daily Vecernje Novosti Friday that the presidential elections need to be held before the end of the year and that the ruling coalition must support President Boris Tadic of the Democratic Party (DS) for re-election. The Democrats' cabinet partners remain divided on the issue. While G17 Plus supports Tadic's candidacy and a vote to be scheduled by the end of 2007, Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica's Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) wants the elections delayed, citing unresolved Kosovo status as the reason. The DSS has also to date failed to voice its support for Tadic, despite a coalition agreement that made Kostunica prime minister in exchange for future backing of the Democrat's chief in a presidential race. The legal deadline for the local and presidential ballots to be called is December 31.
