The Serbian parliament continued discussions Thursday over proposed amendments for the 2007 budget.

Budget debate continues in parliament
More than 90 amendments have been submitted to the government’s budget proposal.Parties of the ruling coalition have announced support for the amendments, though officials from Vojvodina, ethnic minority representatives, the Serb Radical Party (SRS), Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) have announced that they would vote against the bill.
The budget proposal for 2007 plans revenues of RSD 581.8bn (EUR 7.28bn) and spending worth RSD 595.5bn (EUR 7.45bn), leaving the budget with a RSD 13.7mn (EUR 171,400) deficit.
An ombudsman and a public information trustee are expected to be elected today as well.
The Council for Constitutional Issues has proposed Saša Janković for the position of ombudsman.
The candidate for information trustee, Rodoljub Sabić, nominated by the Council for Culture and Information, has been holding that position since December 22, 2004.
