Parliament to focus on government

Wednesday, the Parliament adopted a change in the Free Information Access Law,  the State Auditing Institutions Law and other laws of public importance which help to bring regulations in accordance with the new Constitution.

In addition, the no-confidence vote motion will soon reach the parliament’s daily agenda. After an initial misunderstanding, the Socialists and Radicals agreed to call an extraordinary meeting of the parliament to discuss the no-confidence vote against the Government, and to leave Kosovo for later.

Parliamentary speaker Oliver Dulić said that the session on the no-confidence motion will be scheduled after the 2007 budget is adopted.

“I am not obligated to put the first initiative I receive on the agenda first. I want to reach an agreement with the party leaders, but I think it makes more sense to discuss the budget first, and then confidence in the Government. That makes sense because a budget is needed for people to have wages, pensions and everything else,” Dulić said.

The Socialists stated that the opposition had an obligation to bring down the Government. SPS leader Ivica Dačić, however, said that his party will forget about the no-confidence vote if the Kosovo situation becomes pressing.

“The motive of the SPS is not tied to state politics regarding Kosovo, SPS supports the negotiation team and what the prime minister did in talks with the Russian president in maintaining unity and the territorial integrity of Serbia,” Dačić said.

Even if SRS deputy leader Tomislav Nikolić earlier considered dividing the parliamentary discussions between the confidence vote and Kosovo, he now wants to focus solely on the former.

The no-confidence initiative came as a result of the SPS and SRS reaction to the recent arrest and extradition of General Zdravko Tolimir to the Hague Tribunal.

After the discussion is held, the Radicals will not be able to propose a similar initiative for another 180 days.

Even though Dulić said that President Boris Tadić would send a list of candidates for Constitutional Court judges, the proposal did not arrive by the end of yesterday’s session.
