U.S. freezes assets over Lebanon
The letter from President George W Bush did not name any specific individuals.Bush has already banned Syrian and Lebanese officials whom Washington considers are undermining the Lebanese government from traveling to the U.S..
A White House spokesman said Bush had issued this executive order because Lebanon's sovereignty and democratic institutions were increasingly under attack.
The BBC's Jonathan Beale in Washington says this latest action may be more symbolic than anything else, but certainly shows relations between the U.S. and Syria are as strained as ever.
Washington believes Syria was involved in the murder of the former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in 2005, a charge vigorously denied by Damascus.
