The organizing committee of the 25th Summer University Games annulled a dubious contract with Croatia’s company Vartex. Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic who presided over the committee meeting that tok place Thursday, acknowledged that there had been problems at the beginning of the games’ organization. Djelic cancels University Games contract “I guarantee that from now on tenders for the procurement of goods needed for the games will be transparent and in line with the Law on Public Procurement." "The budget inspection is looking into the case involving Vartex and is expected to draw up a report on the basis of which the government will take appropriate action,” he said. The deal with Vartex, involving the production of kits for the games worth EUR 50,000, had been signed by the 2009 Belgrade University Games company, organizers of the event. The organizing committee also sacked the executive director of the company, Srdjan Boskovic, and appointed Zoran Jovanovic to the post. Jovanovic was former deputy secretary for youth and sport in the Belgrade city administration. Boskovic’s dismissal came after the inspection was instructed to look into the manner and circumstances under which the contract had been signed and ascertain whether the Law on Public Procurement had been respected.
