President Boris Tadic and Vice President of the Israeli Strauss Group Arik Gilboa Wednesday opened a new DonCafe factory. The Israeli greenfield investment amounts to close to EUR 10mn. Israelis invest EUR 10mn in new plant "I would like to see such a Serbia in which thousands of factories similar to this are being built. We can do that," Tadic said at the ceremony in Simanovci, Vojvodina. The president was addressing a number of officials that gathered on the occasion, and specified that the municipality had such an infrastructure which made it possible to build new factories. Doncafe is Serbia's leader in coffee trade and processing. The new plant will have a daily capacity to roast five tons of raw coffee, while the processing section has an 18,000-ton capacity. The complex spreads on 33,500 sq meters, while the factory facility itself is sized 8,000 sq meters, and includes offices, production premises, storage and a space for social and educational activity. Currently, the plant employs 300 people. The Strauss Group, which has had a stake in Doncafe since 2002, in 2005 acquired 100 percent of the company's shares. The Israelis have since invested a total of more than EUR 50mn in the company, making it one of the largest investments in Serbia. At the same time this is the multinational company's largest investment outside of Israel. Strauss employs 6,700 workers in 11 countries and owns 23 factories.
