Taxi drivers demand rate increase

Beotaxi President Milivoje Armuš told Tanjug news agency that the demand for an increase was signed by officials from all of the city's taxi companies and that they were expecting that their demand will be approved by the end of the week.

Žuti Taxi President Aleksandar Bjelić told Tanjug that the 11 percent rate increase would be noticeable to citizens only in the periods of high traffic and long waits in between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The taxi drivers submitted their request on July 4 to the Economic Secretariat; Deputy Mayor Radmila Hrustanović’s cabinet is expected to make a decision on whether the rate increase is necessary.

The 11 percent increase would exceed the 7.5 percent limit which the Serbian Government has put on rises in the prices of communal products and services.
