Journalist Luka Popov was found dead on Friday in his home in Srpski Krstur, northern Serbia, journalists associations UNS and DNV have confirmed.

Journalist and radio host found dead in his home

Popov was a host of local radio stations in Coka and Novi Knezevac. Journalists at the scene today in Srpski Krstur told UNS there was still no official confirmation from the police that he had been murdered.

The reports also said that an autopsy will be performed on Saturday morning in Novi Sad.

The Interior Ministry (MUP) told Beta agency that the body of a man in his sixties had been found in Srpski Krstur.

"A police investigation is under way," the MUP said on Friday afternoon.

UNS and DNV asked the police and the prosecution to find out and announce whether Popov's death was connected to his profession.

Earlier, Belgrade-based newspaper Blic said that Popov's body had "visible injuries" and that it was now "presumed" that he was tortured and murdered.
