It marked 19 years since the attack which left 88 ethnic Serbs killed. Memorial service for Serbs killed by Croat forces The commemoration was organized by the Association of the Families of the Missing and Killed Suza, which has been organizing memorial services for people killed in the villages of Divoselo, Citluk and Pocitelj for 15 years now. As the Veritas information and documentation center released earlier, on September 9, 1993, the Croatian army suddenly raided the ethnic Serb villages south and southeastern of Gospic, which had been under UN protection for 18 months at that time. A total of 88 Serbs were murdered - 46 soldiers, six police officers and 35 civilians, 26 of whom older than 60. The victims included 17 women. After the aggression against this region, Croatian authorities turned over 52 bodies to Serbia. There were no wounded in the attack. Members of UNPROFOR subsequently found 18 more bodies, most of them showing signs of torture. Two more bodies were found by members of the Serb Army of Krajina (SVK), while one body was discovered in April 1994. It was not until May 2000 that ICTY (Hague Tribunal) investigators found 11 more bodies hidden in a septic tank in the Serb part of Gospic, only six of which were identified using DNA methodology. Out of 84 remains, eight remain identified, while four more bodies are being searched for. In the period July 2001 - April 2004, the ICTY issued indictments against three Croatian generals for crimes against humanity and violations of the laws and customs of war for the crime in Medak Pocket - Rahim Ademi, Janko Bobetko and Mirko Norac, whereas an investigation into the case of General Petar Stipetic was suspended. Janko Bobetko died in April, 2003. Ademi was acquitted of all charges by the Zagreb District Court. Norac, sentenced to a single 15 year sentence, was released on November 25, 2011, by the Croatian Justice Ministry's Commission for Conditional Release, despite opposition.
