The Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia (NUNS) has once again called on the authorities to find murderers of journalist Radislava Dada Vujasinovic. NUNS President Vukasin Obradovic said on the 18th anniversary of Vujasinovic’s murder that the Association would not rest until the murderers, those who ordered the murder and tried to hide the crime are punished. NUNS calls for arrest of journalist’s murderers NUNS demands from the police, prosecution and the justice system to look into who has been obstructing the investigation all these years. The Association added in a release that it expected that changes to the laws would allow investigators to find the perpetrators more quickly. NUNS again requested from the Organized Crime Prosecution to take over the investigation. “Everybody who has been covering up the crime and protecting the murderers and those who ordered the murder are killing Dada and journalism in Serbia all over again. We respect the fact that the Republic Prosecution fixed its predecessor’s mistake and determined that this was a murder but it is not enough,” NUNS pointed out in the statement. Vujasinovic was murdered on April 8, 1994 in her apartment in Belgrade. The initial investigation determined that she had killed herself with a hunting rifle but her family and colleagues doubted it. The District Prosecution in Belgrade filed a request to the police to collect new evidence in January 2009. Vujasinovic was born in 1964 and worked for weekly Duga. She was a war correspondent from Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina and was among first reporters to investigate organized crime and ties between the criminal underground and politics in Serbia. “The fact that her killers are still unknown shows the power of those ties and that Serbia still has not managed to escape the dark past,” Obradovic stressed.
