Mufti of Belgrade Muhamed Jusufspahic says a football fan currently on trial for setting a Belgrade mosque on fire was not among the perpetrators of the crime. Leader of Partizan FC supporters Milos Radosavljevic aka Kimi and 19 others stand accused of setting the Bajrakli mosque on fire during the riots in Belgrade that broke out in March 2004, after ethnic Albanians organized attacks on Serbs and their property and holy places in Kosovo. Mufti: Hooligan on trial did not attack mosque Mufti Jusufspahic told Belgrade tabloid Kurir that Radosavljevic "on the day informed us about what was going to happen, said that a group of hooligans was planning to attack the mosque". "Thanks to this information, we managed to get 80-year-old Dzeleti Sani and the children who were in the madrasa at the time to safety," he said. Jusufspahic also noted that he made an identical statement as a witness in the trial, but added that, "clearly, nobody heard me". "I won't go into whether Kimi is guilty of other things, such as endangering the safety of (B92) journalist Brankica Stankovic. But it must be said once and for all that Kimi did not set the mosque on fire. On the contrary, his brother, and his father Rade are our neighbors and have always lent a helping hand," the mufti said, and added that Radosavljevic's father also helped on the day of the fire in an attempt "to save what could be saved". "Despite all this, they are constantly trying to implicate his son in the burning of the mosque," Jusufspahic told the daily. Muhamed Jusufspahic (file) Kurir
