The Anti-Corruption Council has filed charges against seven persons for illegal privatization of the Novosti media company. The charges were filed for abuse of office, fraud and forgery of documents. The charged persons are suspected of illegally registering Novosti company into Commercial Court’s registry in 2002 and violating the law during the shares takeover in 2005 and 2006. “Since this is a well-researched phenomenon of dominant system corruption and that relevant evidence was submitted along with the charges we expect that the prosecution will quickly launch the proceedings and notify the public,” it is said in the announcement. The Anti-Corruption Council forwarded a report on Novosti privatization on May 17, which shows many irregularities in the privatization process.
