Serbian police (MUP) have arrested five security workers at the District Prison in Leskovac, southern Serbia, reports said. They are suspected of abusing and torturing detainees there on January 28, 2009. Prison guards suspected of torture The five, identified by their initials, were previously suspended from work, along with two chiefs of sectors, and the jail's former head Zoran Jovic. Yesterday morning, other guards attempted to stage a protest at the prison grounds over the arrests of their colleagues, but they desisted when threatened with losing their jobs. The prison is still under the regime of extraordinary monitoring.
