The War Crimes Prosecution filed charges against Branko Grujic and Branko Popovic for crimes committed in Zvornik in 1992. A Prosecution statement reads that Grujic and Popovic are charged with incarceration, inhumane conduct, and the deaths of around 700 people, of whom 270 have been exhumed from mass graves in Crni Vrh and Grbavica. Grujic, as the head of the temporary government of the Municipality of Zvornik and the commander of Crisis HQ, and Popovic, as commander of the Territorial Defense HQ, are charged with coordinating their actions and using their positions in a premeditated manner to violently separate and take Muslim civilians hostage, whom they later murdered, the indictment states. Grujic and Popovic are already on trial in the so-called Zvornik 1 case, but in June, at the prosecution’s request, the trials against the pair were separated. Fellow accused in that case Dragan Slavkovic, Ivan Korac and Sinisa Filipovic were sentenced to a total of 31 years in prison for crimes committed in the Zvornik suburbs of Ekonomija and Ciglana.
