FM Vuk Jeremic has spoken by phone with Hillary Clinton about the case of fugitive Serbian student Miladin Kovacevic. “I am terribly sorry about the whole case and my thoughts are with the Steinhauer family,” said Jeremic, but repeated that the Serbian Constitution did not allow for the extradition of Serbian nationals to other countries, say U.S. media. The U.S. Attorney’s Office has charged Kovacevic, who was studying at Binghamton University, with assaulting fellow student Bryan Steinhauer following an argument in a bar. Steinhauer fell into a coma as a result of the injuries he sustained. Kovacevic was released on bail and his passport confiscated, but he returned to Serbia in early June with temporary travel documents issued to him by the Serbian consul in New York, which incurred an angry protest from the U.S. authorities.
