China's HBIS submits only bid for Smederevo steel mill
Finance Minister Zeljko Sertic later confirmed this. According to him, it will be known within two weeks whether the offer meets the conditions of the tender.The initial price of the Smederevo giant, which has around 5,000 employees, is EUR 45.68 million - 50 percent of its estimated worth.
An invitation for bids was issued on March 4 and the deadline expired on Wednesday, March 30.
It has been announced that the Chinese company is also interested in opening a welded tube manufacturing plant in Smederevo, into which it would invest around EUR 300 million.
The steel mill has been under professional management by HPK Engineering since April last year.
The Serbian government signed an agreement with the company after an unsuccessful attempt to sell the plant in a tender.
