The United Group Consortium has bought the documentation in a strategic partnership tender for the Zelezara steel mill, called by the Serbian government. This is according to a report in the Belgrade-based Blic newspaper on Friday. "Russian-Czech consortium interested in Smederevo plant" The daily was quoting its sources in the Serbian government. The United Group Consortium is made up of Russia's Bumas and the Czech Pilsen. In Moscow, consortium owner Ivan Samis said they would not talk to the media because the steel mill sale process was ongoing. The United Group is the only consortium to have bought the documentation. The steel plant was bought by U.S. Steel in 2003, but was sold back to the Serbian government in January of this year. Bumas has already participated in a privatization in Serbia as part of a consortium with Russia's Rosmastrog Company, when it tendered for the acquisition of Trstenik-based Prva Petoletka hydraulic and pneumatic products manufacturer and secured the purchase for EUR 5 million, Blic writes. However, in 2009 it pulled out of the contract, due to "a financial crisis".
