Serbia's trade deficit in the first nine months of 2010 was USD 5.15bn, down by 7.1 percent compared to same period last year. The Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia (RZS) announced on Friday that from January to September, Serbia exported goods worth USD 6.91bn, a rise of 15.7 percent compared to the corresponding period last year. The export-import ratio was 57.3 percent and was higher compared to the same period last year, when it stood at 51.8 percent. From January to September this year, Serbia had a significant growth in exports, primarily due to the results in the export of metal industry and agricultural products. The exports and imports results were to an extent influenced by a weaker Serbian dinar in that period, and exports were in particular stimulated by the increase in industrial production in the country, as well as by economic activities in the world. In exports, Serbia's main foreign trade partners were Italy with USD 789.7mn, Bosnia-Herzegovina - U.S. $ 788.1mn and Germany - USD 732.3mn. In imports, the main foreign trade partners were the Russian Federation with USD 1.62bn, Germany - USD 1.27bn and Italy - USD 1.02bn. Serbia traded the most with the countries with which it signed free trade agreements, and the volume of trade with European Union member states comprised more than half of the total external trade. The country's second most important partner were the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) countries, with which it had a trade surplus of USD 999.2mn, due mainly to exports of agricultural products.

At the same time imports were worth 12.06bn, an increase of 4.7 percent.

The export-import ratio was 57.3 percent and was higher compared to the same period last year, when it stood at 51.8 percent.

From January to September this year, Serbia had a significant growth in exports, primarily due to the results in the export of metal industry and agricultural products.

The exports and imports results were to an extent influenced by a weaker Serbian dinar in that period, and exports were in particular stimulated by the increase in industrial production in the country, as well as by economic activities in the world.
