The Elektrokosmet company has called on the citizens of Kosovska Mitrovica to pay their electricity bills or risk “restrictions” in power deliveries. Company Deputy Director Boban Novakovic told Kosovska Mitrovica radio Contact Plus that the percentage of those who have paid is less than 10 percent. K. Mitrovica residents warned to pay bills “The process of collecting the money starting very late, in late December, so there was a very small number of working days. Lethargy has overcome the citizens, because of the New Year holidays, so the percentage of the paid bills s only at about 10 percent,” he said on Thursday. Novakovic explained that the company buys electricity from the Serbian state power company EPS and then distributes it to the Kosovo community. Elektrokosmet was also founded by EPS. Novakovic said that the campaign that is being led by individuals against the paying of bills for electricity does not help the people, because they have finally received stable electricity supplies after ten years, and long hours of power cuts do not threaten them any longer. Novakovic denied claims being made by Kosovo electric company KEK officials that Elektrokosmet is not licensed to distribute electricity, adding that Elektrokosmet is a company set up before KEK, and that its license was never revoked. However, many residents of Kosovska Mitrovica stated that the bills were “not realistic”. They also said that there were no officials stamps on the bills, which was a reason cited by many for not paying. KEK officials in Pristina called on citizens not to pay bills to Elektrokosmet, stating that KEK “is the only licenses provider for the distribution and billing of electric energy in Kosovo”.
