Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti writes that the government will look to adopt a draft for the 2010 budget by the end of the week. According to this, the Cvetkovic cabinet hopes to send the draft to parliament by early December. "Budget draft approval by end of week" “In the coming days, it will be decided whether the budget will be discussed at the regular session on Thursday, or if the document will be presented on Friday, November 27,” the daily states, citing sources within the government. These dynamics of discussing the law were decided on in a meeting Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic held with Finance Minister Diana Dragutinovic. A draft of the budget was analyzed and given the “green light” by President Boris Tadic, Cvetkovic and Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic earlier, writes the newspaper. The government has been late and missed the deadline for adopting the draft budget again this year. The daily reminds that the deadline for adopting the 2010 budget expired on November 1. The government, however, reminds that it was expected that the serious work for the budget would not begin until the talks with the International Monetary Fund were completed on 2010 budget policies. “According to the IMF agreement, the budget would have to be adopted two weeks before the scheduled meeting of the IMF executive council, which will be held on December 21,” government sources were quoted, adding that the confirmation of the continuation of the arrangement between Serbia and the IMF is expected at that meeting. Compared to last year, the public spending should be lower by 2.5 percent of the GDP. It is expected that the rebalance of this year’s budget will be taken into consideration for next year’s budget as well. It was also confirmed for the daily that the deficit of the budget for this year will be less than the planned 4.5 percent of the GDP, which means that the income for the last several months has been higher than planned, while some projected spending had been transfer to 2010.
