Total public debt reaches EUR 9.5bn "The total public debt is at around EUR 9.5bn. EUR 4.5bn of that figure represent external debt, while the rest is internal," Bajec said. He remarked that the country was generating more debt than usual in 2009 in order to cover the budget deficit, "but the plan was to annul the deficit in the coming years, so it should be expected that the government would not incur so much debt in the future".
