Industrial production in Serbia recorded a big decrease in early 2009 due to a drop in demand and unfavorable credit conditions.

Industrial production in Serbia recorded a big decrease in early 2009 due to a drop in demand and unfavorable credit conditions. This was heard on Tuesday in Belgrade during a meeting of the Association for the Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Rubber and the Non-Ferrous Industries of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS). Huge drop in industrial production The inflow of FDI has at the same time slowed down owing to the global financial crisis. PKS Vice President Vidosava Dzagic underscored that industrial production in February 2009 was 19.8 percent down on the same month of 2008, and 21.9 percent compared to the 2008 average. She pointed out the particularly concerning fact that the February drop was recorded in 28 industrial sectors which account for 99.9 percent of the overall industrial production. The most dramatic drop happened in the basic metals production, the manufacture of foodstuffs, non-ferous minerals, chemicals and chemical products and even electric power production sectors, Dzagic stated.
