JP Putevi Srbije director Zoran Drobnjak says three major roads will be financed with some EUR 600mn in 2009. Drobnjak, who heads Serbia's public enterprise in charge of constructing and maintaining the country's road infrastructure, specified today that EUR 600mn will be spent on three stretches of Corridor 10, and added that works in Serbia on this pan-European highway will complete in "four years at the latest". "EUR 600mn for Serbia's road network" This undertaking, he explained, will require some EUR 1.75bn of investment. But, Drobnjak added, Serbia could see a return of this sum in road tolls collected over the next ten years. He also announced that negotiations with banks over the construction of the Belgrade-Cacak highway might start next year, and said this road would be economically sustainable. Another plan is to in the next two to three years appraise whether a highway from Cacak to Montenegro has economic justification. Drobnjak also announced that on April 1, 2009, the state intends to announce a tender for road, main road and regional road maintenance, i.e., first and second category state roads. Companies that show interest will have until Oct. 15 next year to acquire equipment necessary for the winter maintenance.
