Serbia's foreign trade in January 2008 amounted to about EUR 2.2bn, with a deficit of EUR 549.6mn.

Serbia's foreign trade in January 2008 amounted to about EUR 2.2bn, with a deficit of EUR 549.6mn. The Statistical Office data out yesterday shows that the deficit was up 23 percent on the same month in 2007. January trade EUR 2.2bn, deficit grows Exports amounted to EUR 696mn, 28.6 percent more than inn January 2007, but imports reached EUR 1.5bn, 34.1 percent up on the same period last year. The rise in January is the result of imported energy, which amounts to 27.6 percent of the overall figure, as well as import of copper and iron and increasing individual and public spending.
