Holland’s Heineken and Turkish Efes will merge to run breweries together in Serbia. In the first half of 2008, Heineken will become a 72 percent owner and Efes will own 28 percent of the breweries the two companies have acquired in Serbia. Heineken is curently in the process of taking over the Rodic brewery, which is the fourth largest brewery with seven percent of the market and a yearly capacit y of 1.5 hectoliters. Heineken President for Central and Eastern Europe Nico Nussmeier said that the deal gives a good starting position for taking the leading position in the growing market in Central and Eastern Europe. Efes owns a total of 10 breweries in Russia, Kazakhstan, Moldavia and Serbia, with a total capacity of 24.6 million hectoliters. Heineken owns more than 115 breweries in more than 65 countries with total group sales of 132 million hectoliters, making it the fourth largest beer company in the world.
