Teachers unions, government still without agreement

No agreement has yet been reached in talks between the government and teachers union representatives. It has been agreed that talks between Education and Finance Ministers Zoran Loncar and Mirko Cvetkovic with the unions will continue on Thursday. Teachers unions, government still without agreement Serbian Teachers Union President Miodrag Skrobonja said last night that there had been no new proposals during the talks. Skrobonja said that the ministers had refused to attend today’s meeting with union members. Talks between the government and the unions on defining the technical means of distributing the funds for education workers envisaged by the 2008 budget will continue on Thursday. Representatives of the competent ministries and the unions have so far agreed on the total budget to be allocated to education in 2008, says a statement from the Finance Ministry. Priority in terms of pay increases will be given to the lowest ranking non-teaching staff, while all savings will be used to improve the material circumstances of employees inthe field, and it has been agreed to prepare a plan to analyze staff number . It has also been agreed that all employees will receive a Christmas bonus of RSD 15,000 (around EUR 180).
