UK companies are interested in investing in Serbia, says the head of the British embassy trade department. Nick Groves told Beta that the UK-based companies are particularly interested in spa tourism, car making, electronics and textile industry sectors. UK companies eye Serbian investment opportunities "Overall investment from the British companies, according to official National Bank of Serbia data, for the period from 2001 to 2006, is at USD 307mn, placing them on the top seven foreign investors list," Groves pointed out. Serbia's advantage in attracting fresh capital from abroad, in his opinion, lies in qualified but cheaper workforce, good geographical position and free trade agreements with Russia and regional countries. He added there were 60 British companies doing business in Serbia at this point, among them British American Tobacco, Ashmore and Greenhouse Investments, while franchising could increase that number. Trade between the two countries showed a constantly upward trend, to grow some 22 percent in the first nine months of this year, with USD 119.3mn worth of imports from the UK; and USD 102.6mn of Serbian exports. Groves said he expected the trade volume between Serbia and the United Kingdom to reach EUR 300mn this year.
