Message to Trump: Claim is false
Iranian Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, today denied the claim by U.S. President Donald Trump that Tehran is planning an assassination against him.
The Islamic Republic of Iran did not attempt an assassination on the U.S. president and seeks his prosecution in international courts, the Iranian ambassador said, RIA Novosti reports.
According to him, U.S. intelligence agencies have also not confirmed such statements made by the president.
“Trump tried to boost his popularity by making such statements during the election campaign,” the Iranian ambassador added.
He added that the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in the initial U.S. strikes on Iran became a destabilizing factor, the consequences of which are difficult to predict.
Trump, in an interview with ABC News earlier in March, claimed that the Iranian leadership had allegedly tried to eliminate him twice.
The U.S. and Israel began attacking targets in Iran, including Tehran, on February 28, causing damage and civilian casualties.
Iran is conducting strikes on Israeli territory, as well as on U.S. military facilities in the Middle East.
