U.S. Vice President JD Vance stated that there is “no chance” that potential American military strikes against Iran would lead to a years‑long war in the Middle East.

In an interview with the Washington Post, Vance said that U.S. President Donald Trump is considering options — from military strikes to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons to a diplomatic solution — but that the United States will not enter a years-long conflict.

“The idea that we would be in a Middle East war for years with no end in sight — there is no chance of that happening,” Vance said.

He described himself as a “skeptic of foreign military interventions,” recalling his experience from the Iraq War, but added that the U.S. should not automatically rule out any military option because of “past mistakes.”

U.S.-Iran talks resumed on Thursday in Geneva without a concrete agreement, while American military presence in the region is at one of its highest levels in the past two decades, the Washington Post reports.

In the interview, Vance also commented on debates within the conservative movement regarding policy toward Israel, noting that an open discussion is healthy for the right.

He also referred to a Fox News interview conducted by former host Tucker Carlson with the U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mike Herzog, describing it as a “good conversation” despite the controversy surrounding it.
