This identification was first reported by Western Standard and Juno News, citing a close family member as the source, as well as witnesses who knew Jesse.

According to Juno News, the suspect’s uncle, Russell G. Streng, confirmed that Jesse was responsible for the shooting in which 10 people were killed, including the suspect himself.

However, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have not yet officially confirmed the suspect’s name in their public reports.

Official Confirmation Through Formal Channels


Authorities emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing and that official confirmation of the suspect’s identity will be released through formal channels only after all verification processes are completed.

 

The police have also not yet released detailed information about the motive for the attack or the exact sequence of events leading up to the shooting.

Media reports indicate that a public YouTube account believed to be linked to Jesse Streng displayed a transgender pride flag and used the pronouns “she/her.” These details were widely shared on social media in the hours following the identification.

The danger of speculation


Law enforcement officials have not publicly commented on the suspect’s gender identity or personal background. Investigators typically focus first on establishing the facts of the crime itself, potential accomplices, and any warning signs before examining personal or ideological aspects in depth. Authorities also warned about the danger of speculation, noting that in high-profile cases, misinformation can spread very quickly.

Allegedly killed mother and brother before the massacre


Before heading to the school, Streng allegedly killed his mother and younger brother, who were known members of the community.

“My mother was a good friend of his mother, Jennifer, and my younger brother, who is also on the autism spectrum, was close to Emett, his younger brother,” said one witness.

“There is currently no person in this town who hasn’t been affected by this,” he added.
