School massacre in Canada: Ten dead PHOTO/VIDEO
A shooting occurred at a high school in the town of Tumbler Ridge in British Columbia, Canada, in which ten people were killed, including the attacker, authorities said.
The shooting occurred at around 1:20 p.m. local time, the BBC reports.
Police found six people dead inside the school, while a seventh died on the way to the hospital. Two more individuals were found without signs of life in a house located near the school.
Police believe that the two deaths in the house are connected to the incident at the school.
The shooter was also found dead, and police believe the individual inflicted the fatal injuries on themselves.
Police Chief Ken Floyd said that 25 people sustained minor injuries, while two were seriously injured.
In a security alert sent during the attack, the suspect was identified as “a female wearing a dress with brown hair.”
Officials say they know the identity of the attacker, but have not yet released the name or gender.
Police have not yet identified the type of weapon used in the attack, nor the ages of the victims.
British Columbia Premier David Eby said at a press conference that police arrived at the scene two minutes after receiving the call, preventing this horrific tragedy from becoming even worse.
The school complex houses both an elementary and a high school, from which around 1,000 students and staff were evacuated.
The town of Tumbler Ridge, home to about 2,400 people, is located roughly 1,200 km from Vancouver and near the border with Alberta. It is known for its coal mines, waterfalls, and dinosaurs.
