Support for Orbán: "Zelensky's statement unacceptable; Political differences must be resolved through dialog"
Minister of Information and Telecommunications Boris Bratina expressed support for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who was publicly threatened by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"We consider the statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky unacceptable and remind that political differences between states and their leaders can and must be resolved exclusively through dialogue, with responsible communication and full respect for the sovereign decisions of each country.
Rhetoric involving threats is not in the spirit of international cooperation and does not contribute to building trust, stability, or mutual respect in contemporary international relations.
In this context, we express our full support for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán," Bratina wrote.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that he is not personally concerned about the death threats allegedly made against him by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, emphasizing that he will not allow his country to be jeopardized.
Orbán stressed that the dispute over the Druzhba oil pipeline is not a personal matter for him, but rather an issue of Hungary’s energy supply.
He warned that he will use all political means to break through the Ukrainian oil blockade.
According to him, Hungary cannot be coerced or blackmailed regarding its energy security. He noted that Ukraine has placed Hungary under an oil blockade, which the government intends to prevent by all available means. He emphasized that the oil awaiting transit belongs to Hungary and that the Ukrainian side is obliged to deliver it under the terms of the EU agreement. Orbán stated that he will use all political and financial measures to overcome the blockade, explicitly ruling out military intervention, saying that "the Hungarian government stands for peace."
"Energy is an internal policy issue; it affects the pocket of every Hungarian family. If we do not defend ourselves, Hungarians will pay the price. That is why we will defend ourselves and break this, we will overcome the oil blockad, and no life-threatening threats can deter me from that," Orbán stressed.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier today warned Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán that he would direct Ukrainian armed forces at him if Hungary continues to block the EU’s €90 billion loan to Ukraine.
"We hope that a certain person will not block the €90 billion loan or its first tranche in the European Union, or else the Ukrainians will have weapons. Otherwise, we will give the address of that person to our armed forces, our sons, and let them call and speak to him in their own language," Zelensky announced, according to Hirado.
Budapest took this step in response to Kyiv halting the transit of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline. The Hungarian government has repeatedly stated that it will not accept the accelerated accession of Ukraine to the EU and will not send its citizens’ money to Ukraine.
