Is the EU going to fall apart?
Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University in New York, Professor Jeffrey Sachs, stated that the scenario of the collapse of the European Union is possible, since this structure is very fragile.
"I believe that Europe needs modernization and strengthening - a strong Europe would benefit both Europe and the world as a whole. Instead, however, it is possible that the EU will simply fall apart," Sachs said in an interview with the Russian news agency TASS.
According to him, it could happen that the EU even excludes Hungary, or takes away its right to vote, since Budapest is telling the truth, which is that the war in Ukraine must stop and that Europe must stop encouraging it.

"Given that the principle of decision-making in Europe is now based on unanimity, the possibility of withdrawing Hungary's right of veto, or completely excluding it from the decision-making process," added the American economist.
Sachs stated that there is growing public dissatisfaction with the war, as well as with European leaders.
"Politicians such as British Prime Minister Keirs Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron are hated at home, and many more citizens are dissatisfied with them than support them," he said, adding that many people are also extremely dissatisfied with the Brussels bureaucracy, as he is personally.
In an interview for the Russian agency, part of which was published a few days ago, Sachs also said that the so-called "four musketeers", that is Great Britain, France, Germany and Poland, will not be able to ensure a military victory for Ukraine.
"European politicians are trying to play tough guys. Although, strictly speaking, the whole EU is not like that, but Britain, France, Germany and Poland - the so-called 'four musketeers' who intend to continue the fight against Russia," he said.
According to him, the rhetoric of those countries boils down to the fact that they must rearm, they must not give in, they must not make compromises.
Sachs assessed that those countries cannot ensure a military victory for Ukraine and that this is "absolutely clear".
He also noted that they failed to do so even when the United States was "completely on their side."
"And now the US will not consistently support the anti-Russian military line," Sachs added.
