Rescue crews responded around 10:15 a.m. local time to reports that a military plane had crashed into the water.

The US Navy has confirmed that the aircraft in question is a US Navy EA-18 Growler, a variant of the Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, which is a combat aircraft used in the front lines of defense in hostile environments.

The closest to the crash site was a fishing boat, which noticed the ejected pilots, who were rescued by the boat's crew, i.e. pulled out of the water.

Both American pilots, as stated by the media, were conscious when they were pulled out of the water.

They were quickly transferred to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection boat and then flown to the San Diego Medical Center.

Then the US Navy announced that the pilots were in good general condition, while the aircraft remained submerged.

According to their statement, response teams are on the ground.

"Harbor security boats are on site securing the area, and a cordon has been placed around the crash site to minimize the spread of fuel and debris. Environmental and safety teams are working to mitigate any potential impacts. There are no reports of civilian injuries or property damage at this time," the Navy said in a statement.

The Navy, however, did not specify the cause of the plane crash.
