In Şanlıurfa, in southern Turkey, an armed incident occurred this morning at a vocational high school in the Siverek district, when an armed man allegedly entered the school building and opened fire with a shotgun.

According to the Daily Mail, at least 18 people were injured, including students.

Turkish media report that the attacker was a former student of the school and that he committed suicide.

Local media had earlier stated that, after the shooting, the attacker remained inside the school building and held some of the students hostage.

Police immediately cordoned off the wider area and imposed strict security measures, while special police units and emergency medical teams were also dispatched to the scene.

A video has appeared on social media and in local media showing students fleeing the building in panic at the moment the shooting began.
