Livestock Prices Fall Across Serbia

Livestock prices declined across much of Serbia last week, with lower prices recorded for calves, fattening bulls, and pigs in several regions. While prices generally trended downward, some local markets reported regional fluctuations, according to STIPS.

Zaječar: Calf prices decline

Slaughterhouses in the Zaječar region recorded a decline in the purchase price of Simmental (SM) calves weighing up to 160 kilograms, with a prevailing price of 900 dinars/kg.

In addition to calves, processors also purchased Simmental fattening cattle weighing 350-480 kilograms, as well as slaughter cows.

Kraljevo: Fattening bulls down to 450 dinars/kg

At the livestock market in Kraljevo, the selling price of Simmental fattening bulls weighing more than 500 kilograms fell to 450 dinars/kg. Supply and demand remained unchanged compared with the previous week.

Pirot: Calves at 850 dinars/kg, bulls at 550 dinars/kg

Slaughterhouses in the Pirot region purchased Simmental calves weighing up to 160 kilograms, fattening bulls weighing more than 500 kilograms, and slaughter cows.

Purchase prices stood at:

  • Calves: 850 dinars/kg
  • Fattening bulls: 550 dinars/kg
  • Slaughter cows: 250 dinars/kg

Šumadija, Belgrade, and South Bačka: Beef cattle prices ease

Slaughterhouses in the Šumadija region paid lower prices for cattle weighing more than 480 kilograms, with 450 dinars/kg becoming the prevailing purchase price.

In the Belgrade area, the purchase price of fattening bulls weighing more than 500 kilograms also declined, settling at 430 dinars/kg.

In the South Bačka region, the most common purchase price for cattle weighing over 480 kilograms remained 450 dinars/kg, although procurement volumes were weaker than the previous week despite average market supply.

Pig market: Piglet prices fall, mixed regional trends

At the livestock market in Kraljevo, the selling price of piglets weighing 16–25 kilograms fell to 280 dinars/kg.

In contrast, slaughterhouses in the Middle Banat region reported higher purchase prices for fattening pigs weighing 80–120 kilograms, where 180 dinars/kg prevailed. Procurement volumes were reported as good.

Slaughterhouses in the Šumadija region recorded a decline in the purchase price of slaughter sows, with 150 dinars/kg becoming the dominant price during the past week.

In the Podrinje region, purchase prices declined for both piglets weighing 16-25 kilograms and fattening pigs weighing 80-120 kilograms. Piglets were purchased for 400 dinars/kg, while fattening pigs fetched 180 dinars/kg.

The purchase price of piglets also declined in the Niš region, where 300 dinars/kg was the prevailing price.

Meanwhile, slaughterhouses in the Belgrade area paid 175 dinars/kg for fattening pigs weighing 80-120 kilograms, also lower than in the previous reporting period.

At the livestock market in Obrenovac, piglets weighing 16-25 kilograms sold for a prevailing 370 dinars/kg.

There were no significant changes in the supply or demand for piglets and fattening pigs in the South Bačka region. Slaughterhouses there paid 350 dinars/kg for piglets, while fattening pigs were purchased for 160-180 dinars/kg, depending on body weight and animal quality.

Lamb market: Prices rise in Šumadija, fall elsewhere

Report from the livestock market in Kragujevac: lamb prices increased while sheep prices declined compared with the previous week. Lambs sold for 500 dinars/kg, while sheep averaged 170 dinars/kg.

More than 150 lambs and over 25 sheep were offered for sale. Purchase prices in slaughterhouses across the Šumadija region matched those recorded at the livestock market.

In the Mačva region, slaughterhouses paid less for lambs than in the previous period, with purchases typically made at 400 dinars/kg.

A decline in lamb prices was also recorded at the livestock market in Kraljevo, where the prevailing price was 430 dinars/kg.

According to STIPS, the Serbian livestock market last week was characterized by declining prices in most categories, particularly calves and fattening bulls, while pig and lamb prices showed regional variations reflecting local supply and demand conditions.
