According to the report, cited by Tanjug, while in the Central American country, Thaci "used the opportunity to lobby with South American countries" - namely with those that have not recognized Pristina's unilateral declaration of independence, made in 2008.

The daily said on Tuesday that Thaci "launched a diplomatic offensive in order for the countries that have not recognized Kosovo's independence to do so."

According to the same source, Thaci met with presidents, prime ministers, and representatives of South American countries that have not recognized Kosovo.

The result is Thaci's claim that there is "a very optimistic spirit to progress toward a speedier recognition of Kosovo's independence, even among the countries that have been hesitant so far."
